4,250km from Mexico to Canada

Step-by-Step

What I’m doing

To raise money to provide disadvantaged children with educational scholarships, I’m attempting to solo hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). The PCT is a 4,250 km continuous trail that weaves its way across America, from Mexico to Canada.

5.5 million steps. 250 kilometres of elevation. One million calories.  7 pairs of shoes.  Deserts, mountains, rain, ice, snow, mud, and dirt.  I’ll hike through pretty much every terrain imaginable.  I’ll carry everything I need on my back, and sleep in a tent.  It’s a long way, farther than crossing Australia from East to West as the crow flies.  Step by step I’ll do my best to get to the end.

Why I’m doing this

I grew up in regional Australia and was homeschooled by my hard-working parents. They sacrificed everything for their kids. I had a dream of becoming a doctor, but a standard education was beyond my reach.

At the age of 16, a school empathised with my situation and gave me a scholarship. It fundamentally changed the trajectory of my life and allowed me to achieve my dreams. I’ve always wanted to do the same for other children. Now it’s my turn to give back.

Just like a child needs a school bag full of all the right tools to succeed, so too will I need a backpack with the correct gear to keep me safe and moving forwards.

Although my wife and four children won’t be with me physically on the hike, they will be cheering me on from back home.  Their support means everything.  My wife, Annie, is the real hero of this adventure.  She is sacrificing so much to keep me on the trail.

Every dollar raised goes to scholarships for disadvantaged children – not one cent is consumed by administration costs or expenses.  Donations are tax deductible.

Please help me educate disadvantaged kids, step by step.
